SALARY AND BENEFITS FOR OVERSEAS HIRE TEACHERS

The Riffa Views International School (RVIS) Board of Trustees has established a highly competitive salary and attractive benefits package.

Contract Period
RVIS foreign hire teachers' contracts are issued on an annual basis by International Schools Services (ISS) based in Princeton, New Jersey, USA. Contracts are issued for one to two school years at a time.

Contract Year
The contract will be for 187 working days as scheduled by RVIS and will include professional development and in-service days. The work day will be from 7:45 am to 3:30 pm, Sunday through Thursday.

Salary
The base salary will depend on the teacher's educational level, teaching experience and longevity. Salary steps below are based on the 2016/2017 Salary Schedule.

A new employee is given credit for one step on the Salary Schedule for each two years of prior teaching experience up to a maximum initial placement of Step 8. The Base Salary is divided into 12 payments and is paid by ISS on the 30th of each month (commencing August 30) in US dollars directly into the employee's bank account of their choice.

Foreign Service Premium
Foreign Service Premium (FSP) paid is 25% of the base salary. The intent of the FSP is to make up the difference between the cost of items you would routinely purchase in your country of origin and the cost to purchase similar items in Bahrain. This amount is divided into 12 payments and is paid in US dollars directly into the employee's bank account of their choice.

Retirement Plan
ISS will provide an amount equal to 10% of the Employee's base salary as a savings or investment contribution.  This amount will be paid directly to the Employee’s bank account of the Employee’s choice in 12 equal monthly installments.

Housing

Furnished housing inclusive of water and electricity  will be provided by RVIS for the use of the employee at location, according to the policy for single or married teaching couples.

Transportation
Initial one-way economy air transportation via the most direct route from the employee's "Home of Record" or nearest airport to Bahrain is provided to the employee by ISS at the commencement of employment. This includes where applicable, the employee's dependents residing in Bahrain with the employee. Either tickets or money to purchase tickets will be provided at the discretion of ISS.

One-way economy air transport via the most direct route from Bahrain to home of record upon termination of employment will be given by ISS. This allowance will be provided by ISS in the April pay period.

Annual Airfare
Employees receive an allowance equivalent to an economy round-trip economy class airfare via the most direct route from Bahrain to "Home of Record" or nearest airport for all returning employees, including their dependents residing in Bahrain with the employee. This allowance will be provided by ISS in the April pay period or the employee may wish to have ISS purchase their ticket/s in lieu of the allowance.

Shipping Allowance
Initial Shipment: ISS will provide an allowance of US$1,500 for a single teacher or US$2,500 for a married couple, plus US$500 for each additional accompanying dependent child for shipment of personal effects to Bahrain. This allowance will be paid in the August pay period.

Termination of Shipment:  ISS will provide an allowance of US$1,500 for a single teacher or US$2,500 for a married couple, plus US$500 for each additional accompanying dependent child for shipment of personal effects from Bahrain.

Relocation Allowance
ISS will provide a one-time relocation allowance of US$1,000 for per single teacher or US$1,500 per married couple, plus an additional US$250 for each accompanying dependent child. Fifty percent of the allowance will be provided to the teacher in Bahraini Dinar when they arrive to the airport upon the start of their initial employment contract. The other fifty percent is paid in the August pay period.

Medical and Dental Insurance
Worldwide medical and dental insurance provided with ISS paying 50% of the cost of medical and dental insurance premiums if the employee elects to enroll in this plan and if the employee agrees to contribute the remaining 50% of the cost of these premiums as a salary deduction. The carrier is Aetna Global Benefits.

Long-Term Disability Income Protection Insurance
ISS provides a long-term disability income insurance protection policy for the employee at no cost to the employee.

Life Insurance
ISS provides a life insurance policy with a value of two times the annual base salary of the employee at no cost to the employee.

Sick Leave
RVIS grants up to 15 days of sick leave per school year, in accordance to Bahraini Labour Laws.

Mandatory Tax Deductions
US citizens are subject to all US tax regulations as they apply to US citizens living overseas. ISS will pay the employer's portion of US Social Security and Medicare (7.65% of base salary; the US citizen/ISS Employee is required to pay an identical amount into this program). US citizens must also contribute to the following New Jersey State coverage: Unemployment (0.3825%), Short Term Disability and Catastrophic Illness (0.50%), Workforce Development (0.0425%), and Paid Family Leave Insurance (0.12%).  The US citizen/ISS Employee contributes approximately 1.045% of the first US $29,700 of the base salary for this coverage in 2010.

Dependent Tuition at RVIS
Overseas hire teachers will be permitted to enroll up to two dependent children residing with them in Bahrain in RVIS, tuition and registration fees waived, in Nursery through Grade 12 (per the RVIS Admissions Policy).

Immunization Costs, Medical Examinations
The costs for necessary immunizations and required ISS employment physical will be reimbursed to the employee by ISS.

Bahraini Work Permit, Residence Visa and CPR Card
RVIS will make arrangements and pay for the procurement of the employee's Bahraini work visa, residence visa and CPR card (identification card).

Initial Arrival on Site
New Overseas Hire employees must arrive in Bahrain approximately seven days prior to New Teacher In-Service. 

After School Activities
All teachers at RVIS are expected to sponsor After School Activities (ASA) for two out of the three ASA sessions during each school year.

Professional Development Opportunities
RVIS encourages faculty to develop new skills in current best practices in American education and to keep themselves up-to-date in their field of expertise. Attendance at relevant professional conferences is encouraged. An amount of US$1,000 per school year is available per employee to pursue professional development opportunities. Up to US$1,000 of a teacher’s professional development fund may be carried forward to the next contract year. At the start of any contract year, the accumulated amount may not exceed US$2,000.

International Recruitment Conference Attendance
Starting with the second contract year of employment with RVIS the employee may use up to five (5) days of sick leave toward attendance at a recruiting conference. Airfare and hotel expenses are the responsibility of the employee.
